Uma Rao

Uma is on a mission to deliver high-quality people processes in alignment with the business strategy over the past three decades. Educated as a HR professional, she worked at leading organizations in IT, manufacturing, telecom and fast-moving consumer goods industries both Indian as well as multinational companies where she has been in several executive positions working very closely with business leaders. Uma has experience in organizational development, competency development, policy and digital HR, succession planning and labor relations, and has led several organizations to be assessed as a Great Place to Work. Her key work spans across talent management skills and leadership development in India and emerging markets. 

Currently, Uma works as Vice President of Human Resources at Ashok Leyland Ltd., an auto major in India and SAARC nations, GCC and Africa, with a focus in diversity, inclusion and belongingness as well as sharpening the workforce processes for international operations. She also accepted the challenge to lead a company as a CEO of a subsidiary company of Ashok Leyland.

Interacting with students, women and young talent is Uma’s , and she mentors a few of them to aid in their development. Uma was awarded for outstanding contribution by Women Economic Forum and HRD Congress.
